The 6205-2Z shielded variant

The 2Z suffix indicates metal shields on both sides. Suitable for clean industrial applications where the shield keeps dust out but does not provide contact sealing. Runs at slightly higher speed limit than the sealed variant because the shield does not create friction against the inner ring. Common on electric motor installations in clean workshop environments.

The 6205-2RS1 sealed variant

The 2RS1 suffix on SKF indicates two rubber seals with light contact against the inner ring. The seal package keeps dust and moisture out of the bearing at the cost of slightly higher friction and lower maximum speed. This is the workhorse variant for European industrial rebuild aftermarket — suits most general industrial applications. The equivalent FAG 6205.2RSR uses a slightly different seal design with functionally equivalent performance.

The 6205-2RSH high-performance seal variant

The 2RSH suffix on SKF indicates the high-performance seal design with better contamination resistance and lower friction than the standard 2RS1. Introduced by SKF as an upgrade path for applications running in dusty or contaminated environments. Runs at slightly higher maximum speed than 2RS1 while providing similar sealing effectiveness. Costs approximately 12 to 18 percent more than 2RS1 at European aftermarket list.

The 6205/C3 elevated clearance variant

The C3 suffix indicates elevated internal clearance versus the CN default. C3 clearance runs 5 to 25 micron additional radial play depending on bearing size. Standard specification for applications running above 40°C above ambient temperature. Electric motor and gearbox installations typically specify C3 clearance for the elevated operating temperature. Get this wrong and the bearing runs too tight at operating temperature and shortens L10 life meaningfully.

The 6205-2RS1/C3 combined variant

The combined 2RS1 sealing plus C3 clearance is arguably the most-sold single 6205 SKU in the European aftermarket. Suitable for industrial motor rebuild, general pump applications and standard gearbox installations. If you can carry only one 6205 variant on the shelf, this is the one. Delivers acceptable performance across roughly 70 percent of aftermarket demand.

The 6205-2Z/C3 shielded plus C3 variant

The 2Z plus C3 combination serves clean industrial applications requiring elevated clearance for operating temperature. Common on electric motor installations in food processing and packaging equipment where the environment is clean but operating temperature is elevated. Costs slightly less than the 2RS1/C3 variant and delivers marginally higher speed limit.

The 6205-C4 extra-elevated clearance variant

The C4 suffix indicates further elevated clearance beyond C3. Used on applications running above 100°C above ambient or with elevated axial preload requirements. Less common than C3 in general industrial aftermarket. Distributors should carry this on order-in-response-to-quote basis rather than as standing stock.
